About Lioka Exporting

From Madagascar to the world

A family-run exporter in Toamasina

Lioka Exporting is a family-run export business based in Toamasina (Tamatave), Madagascar, home to the country's largest commercial port, with a UK presence for international business communication. Buyers in Britain and Europe can reach us on a UK number without an international call or a time-zone gap. We work in English and French.

We specialise in premium Madagascar Bourbon vanilla alongside coffee, cocoa, black pepper and cloves, for the food, beverage and culinary industries. Each line is supplied against the buyer's own written specification rather than a fixed catalogue grade.

We are a new export business and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. What we bring is sourcing relationships in the growing regions themselves, products supplied to your specification, and documentation that stands up. Vanilla is our priority line and the one our relationships are furthest developed on.

We have deliberately kept our business focused rather than large. We are targeting around five tonnes of vanilla annually alongside a modest quantity of spices. By working with a small number of buyers each year we can maintain close relationships, consistent quality and full traceability on every order, rather than stretching thin to chase volume.

If you are looking for a dependable, quality-focused supplier rather than a high-volume commodity trader, we would welcome the conversation.

Our Chief Executive, Mrs Lioka, is based in Toamasina and oversees the harvester relationships and the certification and documentation that accompanies each consignment. She travels north to the growing region herself to see the work being done, which is why we can answer questions about a particular lot rather than pass them on.

What we supply

Five lines, each against your written specification. Vanilla is our priority line and the one our sourcing relationships are furthest developed on.

  • Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla

Gourmet and extraction grades. Whole cured pods, typically 13–20 cm.

  • Madagascar Coffee

Roasted Arabica and Robusta, grown on the east coast near Toamasina.

  • Cocoa

Fermented beans and powder, from the Ambanja and Ambilobe areas.

  • Whole Black Pepper

Clean whole peppercorns, grown on the east coast.

  • Whole Cloves

Whole dried buds with characteristic aroma, grown on the east coast.

How we source

Vanilla comes from the Sava region of northeastern Madagascar, which accounts for the majority of the world's Bourbon vanilla. Cocoa is sourced from the Ambanja and Ambilobe areas in the north. Coffee, black pepper and cloves are grown along the east coast, close to Toamasina itself.

Lots are laboratory tested by our sourcing partners before packing, and every consignment carries a lot-specific certificate of analysis.

Madagascar's vanilla trade is a private one, for reasons anyone in the trade will recognise. We do not publish partner details, locations or certification on this website. That information, along with full export documentation, is shared directly with buyers once an order is live.

From harvest to shipment

Six stages, from the growing districts of Sava to your freight forwarder at Toamasina.

  1. Sava Region

Rich soil, tropical climate, and the source of most of the world’s Bourbon vanilla. Northeastern Madagascar is where our supply begins.

  2. Partner Harvesters

Established growers in the Sava region, cultivating and curing to methods passed down through generations. Partner details stay private, as the trade requires.

  3. Carefully Selected

Only pods meeting the agreed grade are selected. Length, moisture and appearance are checked against your specification before anything is packed.

  4. Laboratory Tested

Laboratory tested by our sourcing partners for quality, purity and safety, with results confirmed on a lot-specific certificate of analysis.

  5. Packed & Stored

Packed and stored at our partners’ facilities in the agreed format: vacuum-sealed bags, jute sacks or lined cartons, to preserve freshness and flavour.

  6. To The World

Supplied FOB Toamasina. You appoint your own freight forwarder and retain control of the shipment and paperwork from quay to destination.

Working with us

Enquiries reach us in English or French, by email, telephone or WhatsApp. A UK number means buyers in Britain and Europe can call without an international dial code or a time-zone gap.

Send the line, grade and volume you are considering and we will come back with a quotation. Samples are available before you commit to a full order. We predominantly take a minimum order of 150 kg but are happy to discuss smaller quantities. Supply is FOB Toamasina, so you appoint your own freight forwarder and keep control of the shipment. DAP delivered terms are also available if you would rather we arranged carriage.

Certificates of analysis, phytosanitary certification, certificate of origin and full export paperwork are prepared for each consignment and shared with you directly at the point of order.

Our current annual capacity is modest by design. This allows us to maintain quality and traceability across every order. If you have a high-volume requirement, get in touch and we will discuss what is realistic for us to support.
